Shailene Woodley Hates Being Compared to Jennifer Lawrence

Shailene Woodley hates being compared to Jennifer Lawrence and it all comes down to women should not be compared to other women. Woodley appeared on The Jimmy Fallon Show in March and in one segment was asked about the comparisons between herself an Lawrence. She paused for a moment while she revealed, comparisons lead to despair. The audience then booed her so the show decided to cut the segment. Later, she would go into further detail explaining that society as a whole makes women in general believe that they should compare themselves with other women. She believes however that as a whole that society will never be able advance if people are comparing themselves to others all the time.

She admits, though that she is not a feminist, unlike the feminism outbreak currently going on in Hollywood. Woodley has made it clear that it should be about equality, not women dominating men for power or vice versus. The Fault In Our Stars actress made it clear that the only thing she has in common with J-Law is short hair and that they both have a vagina. While she did admit before she took the lead role in Divergent she did seek out Lawrence for advice. Woodley admits they have common interests, but that does not mean they are alike in any way. Even though, stars like Beyonce, Miley Cyrus, and Lena Dunham are shouting from the rooftops they are feminist, ex-Secret Life of an American Teenager star is more about sisterhood. She claims most women are 50 percent female and 50 percent male and that is how it should be. Lately many have been comparing Shailene Woodley to Jennifer Lawrence and she truly hates being compared to anyone not just J-Law.

Her main problem with the whole feminism outbreak is that men are not going to treat women respectfully as long as women in general are not treating each other respectively. It all comes down to balance. She believes women should not have all the power and neither should men. While Woodley does not consider herself a feminist, she considers herself as more of a humanist. She does agree that there should be equality, as well. She feels like there is too much fighting occurring among women for feminism to work in today’s society. She is not the only celebrity to feel this way Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood have stated they are not a feminist either, while Katy Perry is still undecided on the issue.

Woodley has stated that after the movie The Fault In Our Stars premiers she will be keeping low-key for a while. She admits that when the audience booed her for her opinion on being compared to J-law it upset her. She claims most would be upset by being booed by a whole audience though. Woodley has admitted that The Fault In Our Stars will be her last teen movie since she now identifies herself as a young adult instead of a teenager. Shailene Woodley thinks that no woman should be compared to another, even Jennifer Lawrence as that is what helps develop insecurities and that is what she truly hates. The Fault In Our Stars is due out in theaters June 6, 2014.
