Seventeen Pushes Miley Cyrus Cover Without Her Approval

When it comes to magazines, Miley Cyrus refuses to pose for just anyone. The salacious singer declined the offer to be featured as Seventeen’s May cover star, but they aren’t taking no for an answer.

“She’s very, very selective when it comes to magazine covers,” a source close to her camp told WWD. “Miley declined Seventeen and denied being a part of it, completely.”

Despite Cyrus’ disinterest, the teen magazine is forging ahead without her consent and using stock photos and write arounds that were not approved by the singer or her team.

“Seventeen readers love Miley Cyrus, and we cover her every chance we get,” said a Seventeen spokesperson. “She ranked high on the March issue’s Girl Power List. Our readers asked for more, so we responded as quickly as possible. Miley’s currently on tour promoting ‘Bangerz,’ so what better time than now to celebrate her and give our readers what they want.”

Even more importantly, Cyrus sells. Seventeen’s newsstand sales have declined 20 percent, and according to WWD, her March 2013 cover of Cosmopolitan sold 1.1 million copies on the newsstand.

“The public’s appetite for her is insatiable,” said Joanna Coles, editor in chief of Cosmopolitan. “She’s the Tesla of magazine covers. There is a waiting list to get her.”

Interestingly enough, Seventeen isn’t the only Hearst title feeling Miley for May. Cyrus landed the cover of Elle‘s latest issue, which features the original styling, photography, and interview that Seventeen readers are surely going to miss. Is some Miley better than no Miley at all? We aren’t entirely convinced. We see a lot of teens feeling ripped off when they fail to find the non-existent Miley interview they spent their hard earned babysitting money on.
