Celebrity Feuds - An ONTD Anthology

In light of last week’s very unexpected, yet very entertaining feud between Orlando Bloom and Justin Bieber, this ONTD Original revisits a few memorable Celebrity Feuds in years past.

Will.I.Am vs. Perez Hilton

In 2009, Will.I.Am and Perez Hilton got into an altercation at an after-party for a music award show in Toronto. With a crowd surrounding them, Perez, Will, and Will's manager (Polo), argue back and forth for about a minute, until Perez tells Will, "you're not a f**king artist ... you're a f**king f*ggot." The scene suddenly turns chaotic -- and in the mess someone punches Perez in the face.

Hilton tweeted about the incident and followed up with a vlog recounting his side of the story.

Mariah Carey vs. Eminem

Mariah and Eminem had been rumored to be dating back in the early 2000's (though the extend of their relationship varies depending on who you ask). They've both "addressed" these rumors throughout various songs and interviews, though things came to a head after Carey married Nick Cannon in 2008. Eminem fired shots at the couple on his album Relapse, wishing Nick "luck with the f***ing w****." This led to a lengthy blog post from Cannon, where he defended his wife, claiming Eminem never got to "second base" and called him racist. Later in 2009, Mariah released the first single from Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel, "Obsessed"; the video is a clear shot at Eminem, portraying a stalker made up to look like him.

Taking offense to "Obsessed" and Mariah's constant denial of any previous romantic involvement, Eminem released a scathing diss track aimed at Mariah and her husband. He goes into graphic detail about their one sexual encounter and threatened to release incriminating pictures and audio confirming their relationship.

Mariah had nothing but nice things to say during an interview with Andy Cohen in 2013.

Star Jones vs. NeNe Leakes

NeNe Leakes and Star Jones have been feuding ever since meeting on Celebrity Apprentice 4. The whole ordeal began when Star suggested that NeNe should be project manager for their latest assignment of staging a live hair show. But the Real Housewife of Atlanta was not happy about being told what to do and unleashed a barrage of insults and threats against Star. "Who the f*** died and made you the God of assigning project managers?" Leakes shouted. "I will take you down... when the rest of these girls won't." When NeNe appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in March 2011, she hurled firing balls of insults Star Jones's way. "She is bossy, she is manipulative, conniving," Leakes said. "And I'm not even being funny. I think that is real. I honestly think that is who she is."

When Jones appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show herself, described the encounter as follows: "Not for nothing, I need to keep calm, but when you're confronted in the wild with an uncaged animal, you're supposed to retreat," Jones said. "You're not supposed to attack."

When DeGeneres asked Jones how her relationship with Leakes is now that filming (aside from the finale) is over, she let out a little laugh. "Well, the lawyer in me would say we were not friends before, we clearly were not friends during and we are not friends after," Jones said.

Alyssa Milano vs. Shannen Doherty

While portraying sisters on the television show Charmed, rumor has it costars Shannen Doherty and Alyssa Milano didn't quite share the bond their characters had behind the scenes. Doherty and Milano's feud began at the start of the third season of the show, and many felt Shannen was jealous of Alyssa's popularity and endorsement deals. It got so bad between the two, Paramount sent a mediator to the set to resolve any tension that existed between the actresses. This mediation proved to be unsuccessful when Doherty left the show after the season. But according to Shannen, Milano issued an ultimatum to the producers that Doherty be removed from the series or she would leave herself. Alyssa Milano has repeatedly denied these claims.

During an interview with Bravo's Andy Cohen on his Watch What Happens Live! Show, Alyssa likened working on the show to being in"high school"; When asked about Shannen's departure from the show, Alyssa replied with "We never really found out what happened...; I can tell you that we were on the air with her for three years, and there were definitely some rough days." Doherty tweeted afterward to assure there was "No drama."

Lindsay Lohan vs. Paris Hilton

Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton were the epitome of frenemies in the early 2000's; they traveled in the same circles and had been pictured partying together on multiple occasions. In 2006, a video surfaced of Paris Hilton, out with oil heir, Brandon Davis. As the pair club-hopped in LA, Davis unleashed a filthy torrent as Paris laughed with approval. Davis makes numerous sexual comments, questions Lindsay's hygiene, and infamously dubs Lohan a firecrotch . Not long after, Lohan was recorded calling Hilton a C*** , though later denied having said it. The exchange led to a falling out between the two, and over the years, they've traded insults and snide remarks. In 2013, Lohan allegedly had Paris’s brother Barron Hilton attacked while at a party in Miami.

Lucy Liu vs. Bill Murray

Rumour has it that Bill Murray stopped a scene purely to tell Lucy Liu that she couldn't act. Not surprisingly, Liu did not take it well. In fact she reportedly threw a punch at the Groundhog Day star. When asked about the onset spat, Murray told the New York Times, "Look, I will dismiss you completely if you are unprofessional and working with me. When our relationship is professional, and you're not getting that done, forget it." In the years since, Murray appears to have moved on, saying, "I feel very warmly for her (Liu) now."

Chris Brown vs. Frank Ocean

Chris Brown was involved in an all-out brawl with Frank Ocean in January of 2013, and sources connected with Chris insist Ocean started it.

Chris was at Westlake Studio in the L.A. area listening to one of the artists he represents. The sources say as Chris went to leave, Frank Ocean and his crew blocked Chris from leaving. The sources say Frank said, "This is my studio, this is my parking spot." Allegedly, Chris went to shake Frank's hand ... and that's when one of Frank's people attacked Chris. Sources connected with Chris say one of Chris' friends jumped in front and hit Frank's friend.

Sources connected with Chris say Frank then came at Chris ... Chris pushed him away and they started brawling.

After the incident, both parties shared pieces from their respective sides.

Patrick Dempsey vs. Isaiah Washington vs. T.R. Knight

Back in Oct of 2006, an argument between costars Patrick Dempsey and Isaiah Washington on the set of Grey's Anatomy made headlines, supposedly over timing and production. Details emerged a few months later, claiming that the argument was over their other costar, T.R. Knight. Knight had been late to filming, and while Dempsey and Washington argued over starting without him, Washington allegedly used a homophobic slur toward T.R. Knight.

Washington denied using the slur in direct reference to Knight, which drew fire from another from another Grey's co-star, Katherine Heigl, who said Washington "needs to just not speak in public."; Knight claimed that the incident played a major part in his decision to come out. In June of 2007, ABC terminated Washington's contract at the end of the 3rd season. He later returned for a guest spot in season 10.

Paris Hilton vs. Nicole Richie

Though they certainly weren't strangers to social scene, Paris and Nicole were catapulted into mainstream fame in 2003 with the premiere of their reality show, The Simple Life. The show followed the seemingly inseparable childhood friends throughout their antics as they traveled across rural America.

In April 2005, reports surfaced that the two were no longer speaking. Hilton commented: "It's no big secret that Nicole and I are no longer friends. Nicole knows what she did, and that's all I'm ever going to say about it." Neither Richie nor Hilton spoke publicly about the cause of the split, though it was speculated that the pair fell out because Nicole allegedly showed one of Paris' homemade sex tapes to a group of their friends. When asked about their friendship last month on Bravo’s WWHL in July of 2014, Nicole gave the following response; "The short answer is I haven't spoken to her in a while, but we are very good friends and I love her and love her family and have a lot of respect for her."

Kanye West vs. Taylor Swift

Arguably one of the most controversial moments in VMA history, Kanye infamously interrupted Taylor Swift in the middle of her acceptance speech for Best Female Video at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. After taking the microphone from Swift, West proclaimed "I'm really happy for you, I'mma let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time." The feed awkwardly cut away from Swift, who later returned with Beyoncé to finish her speech. West later apologized on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, admitting fault and saying he "hurt" Swift. Swift has since poked fun at the incident via her opening monologue for SNL, as well an Instagram post directed toward tourmate, Ed Sheeran.

LC vs. Spiedi

We’ve come a long way since The Hills in being able to recognize scripted reality tv for what it is. We’ll never know how much of their feud was real, but that doesn’t make it any less entertaining.

Lauren Conrad and Heidi Montag became friends when they attended school in San Francisco (back when LC was still filming for Laguna Beach). When Lauren was offered her own spinoff, The Hills, Heidi joined her as her roommate and a member of the cast. By the second season, Montag and Conrad's friendship had deteriorated after the former began dating (and later moved in with) Spencer Pratt. During the third season, Conrad ended her friendship with Montag after she suspected that Pratt was responsible for rumors of a sex tape involving her and her former boyfriend Jason Wahler; the ensuing feud carried through each subsequent season. LC attended Heidi and Spencer’s wedding as a peace offering, which also marked the end of her run on the show. Since The Hills finale in 2010, Montag claims that they’ve spoken a few times, mostly "just catching up and saying hi and things like that.”

Matthew Morrison vs. Jonah Hill

In September of 2011, Jonah Hill slammed Matthew Morrison on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, after having not one -- but two! -- less-than-friendly encounters. Hill claimed Morrison first embarrassed him in a room full of A-listers at a Fox event. "This dude from Glee calls me out!" the comedian said, explaining that Morrison, 32, jokingly asked Hill if he ever stopped talking.

Then, a few weeks later, the two stars ended up at "some douchey Hollywood party," Hill said, where he attempted to pull a prank and snuck up behind Morrison who was engaged in a conversation with Chace Crawford. Before he could even prank him, Hill overheard his own name being used as a punchline in Morrison's joke.

"Matthew Morrison, you better bring your sh*t next time, dude," the Moneyball star ranted. "I'd like to see him sing his way out of this one!"

Rosie O’Donnell vs. Donald Trump

Donald Trump has been involved in a number of feuds, most notably with Martha Stewart, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, and recently President Obama. But it was his feud with former The View co-host Rosie O'Donnell that had all the news and entertainment shows talking about the riff between these two loudmouths. It all started back in late 2006 when Rosie criticized Trump for not dethroning Miss USA Tara Conner after her drug and sex scandal. She also called him a “pimp” and “snake oil salesman.” The Donald fired back at Rosie and called her a “big, fat pig” and a “loser.” He also threatened to steal O'Donnell's wife from her. The two exchanged comical insults for several months after.

Madonna vs. Elton John

Elton John and Madonna have famously feuded for several years, the root of their public standoff stemming back to 2004. While Madonna typically remains mum on their disagreements, John is rarely one to bite his tongue. In recent years, John made headlines for calling Madge a “fairground stripper,” among other insults. John instigated the famous battle during the 2004 Q Awards. While accepting the award for classic songwriter, he said: ”Madonna, best live act? F--- off. Since when has lip-syncing been live? Sorry about that, but I think everyone who lip-syncs on stage in public when you pay like 75 quid to see them should be shot. Thank you very much. That’s me off her Christmas card list, but do I give a toss? No."

John’s husband David Furnish got involved after Madonna took home the Golden Globe for best original song in 2012, beating John. ”Madonna winning Best Original Song truly shows how these awards have nothing to do with merit. Her acceptance speech was embarrassing in its narcissism.” ; Furnish wrote at the time, though he later backtracked on his statements. Fielding questions about John backstage at the Globes, the Material Girl said, ”I hope he speaks to me for the next couple of years. He’s known to get mad at me. He’ll win another award. I don’t feel bad."; Not exactly fighting words, considering John told NBC host Carson Daly that Madonna didn’t “stand a f---ing chance” for the award earlier on the red carpet.

Christina Aguilera vs. Kelly Osbourne

It all started in 2002, when an episode of The Osbournes aired, featuring Sharon talking about Christina Aguilera’s album, My Kind Of Christmas. Kelly responds with saying she wanted to stab herself while listening to it. During the 2003 MTV Europe awards pre-show, Aguilera refused to walk the red carpet if Osbourne — a guest VJ for the event — was present. Kelly responded by calling Aguilera’s music “crap” and saying she was a “cow." Later, a skit was aired of Aguilera throwing darts at a board decorated with a picture of Osbourne. This irked the Ozzy offspring, who voiced her disapproval when she came onstage to present an award. ”If Christina Aguilera has to resort to throwing darts at my head after everything she’s achieved and everything she’s done, then she’s a really sad, sorry person,” Kelly said. “And I take it as a complete compliment.”

”Honey, if you can dish it out, you’ve got to learn how to take it back.” Aguilera later retorted.

In recent years, Kelly’s revived her side of the feud, taking jabs at Christina while hosting on Fashion Police. Osbourne has chimed in with comments like, ”Maybe she is just becoming the fat b*tch she was born to be. I don’t know. She was a c**t to me. And she bought my house!” and “She called me fat for so many f***ing years,” Osbourne continued, “so you know what? F**k you! You’re fat too.”

Aguilera has not publicly acknowledged the feud in years.

Ciara vs. Rihanna

As a guest on Fashion Police in 2011, Ciara revealed that she had a bad encounter with Rih and her friends. ”I ran into her recently at a party, and she wasn’t the nicest....I’ve always respected what she’s done in fashion, but this time, it wasn’t the most pleasant run-in."

The R&B twosome got into a heated Twitter feud afterward. They made up, but things reignited during a radio interview with Ciara.“I don’t know what her problem is. I think she’s nuts right now, like, whatever’s going on, because for me, it doesn’t make any sense,” she said of the Diamonds singer’s controversial behavior. Rihanna supposedly mocked Ciara on Instagram after the latter posted an acoustic performance of her single, Body Party from a bathroom.

Jimmy Kimmel vs. Kanye West

In 2013, Kimmel aired a skit spoofing Kanye West’s one-hour BBC Radio 1 interview. He ribbed ‘Ye for being his ”own hype man” and questioned whether the “leather jogging pant” is really a thing. Because he couldn’t understand much of what West was saying in the interview, Kimmel hired a couple of kids to read the transcript (while sipping on milk shakes, of course), including a bit with ‘Ye’s most recent reference to his favorite movie, The Truman Show.

As expected, Kanye did not appreciate it. In response, he took to twitter, and started an epic rant about Kimmel, beginning (in all caps) with ”JIMMY KIMMEL IS OUT OF LINE TO TRY AND SPOOF IN ANY WAY THE FIRST PIECE OF HONEST MEDIA IN YEARS”. Kimmel invited Kanye onto his show later on, to clear the air and make peace.

Tom Cruise vs. Brooke Shields

Brooke Shields released her book Down Came the Rain in 2003, which chronicled her battle with postpartum depression following the birth of her daughter Rowan. Cruise told Access Hollywood that is was "irresponsible" for Shields to assert that antidepressants helped cure her. "When someone says (medication) has helped them, it is to cope, it didn't cure anything. There is no science. There is nothing that can cure them whatsoever," he said.

"Tom should stick to saving the world from aliens and let women who are experiencing postpartum depression decide what treatment options are best for them," says the former Suddenly Susan star.

Cruise, who is an ardent advocate of Scientology, which condemns mind-altering prescriptions of any kind, instead suggests that women care for themselves with "vitamins and exercise." He then added about Shields: "I care about Brooke Shields because I think she is an incredibly talented women, (but) look at where has her career gone."

Cruise later apologized for publicly berating her. "[Cruise] came over to my house and he gave me a heartfelt apology," Shields, told Leno. "And he apologized for bringing me into the whole thing and for everything that happened. And through it all, I was so impressed with how heartfelt it was. And I didn't feel at any time that I had to defend myself, nor did I feel that he was trying to convince me of anything other than the fact that he was deeply sorry. And I accepted it."

Katy Perry vs. Chief Keef

Now this one was just weird. Last year, Katy Perry mentioned a song by then 17-year-old Chicago rapper Chief Keef, saying that the title “I Hate Being Sober” caused her to “have serious doubt for the world.” The offhand remark caught Keef’s attention several days later, at which point he issued a violent and profanity-filled response. “Dat bitch Katy Perry Can Suck Skin Off my D---”, he wrote. “I’ll smack The S--- out her.” Keef also revealed plans to release a new song targeting Perry. The songstress quickly returned to Twitter to apologize for her remarks. “Mr. Keef! I’m sorry if I offended you. I heard a lot of people guesting on the song & didn’t even know it was you in particular”, she wrote. “I’m a fan of your “Don’t Like” video tbh. I was really just having a general opinion on our generations [sic] desire to be constantly intoxicated.”
