The two hottest superstars in the world celebrated New Year's Eve in style on Wednesday evening. Katy Perry performed a private concert in Las Vegas while Beyonce celebrated the night with Jay-Z in Miami. Both of these artists have a lot to celebrate in 2013, even if their new albums are only slightly better than average.
First, let's talk about Queen Katy Perry. She was the "anti-Gaga" of the year in that she didn't need desperate stunts and special deals with Billboard Magazine in order for her songs to chart. In early August, she released "Roar," which instantly went to number one. Her album "Prism" debuted at the top and is still continuing to produce hit singles such as "Dark Horse."
The most important thing for Katy Perry in 2013 is that she established herself as the world's Queen of Down to Earth. While we loved the scandals Miley Cyrus produced, it was a great pleasure seeing at least one pop star succeed with her charm instead of her body (though Katy does have a pretty nice one).
Speaking of hot bodies, Beyonce really outdid all the pop stars this year. She started 2013 off with an incredible performance at the Super Bowl. Then, she blew roofs of arenas at the Mrs. Carter Show World Tour. Then, Beyonce surprised everybody by releasing her self-titled album in late December. She changed the game by releasing the album unannounced and the "surprise factor" of it all is what sold the album. The music on the album is pretty mediocre, but that doesn't matter in the scheme of things.
Both Katy Perry and Beyonce are going to tour in 2013 and we can hardly wait to see their shows. Let's hope these two pop titans can get together for a duet in 2014.
