NME Awards 2014 nominations revealed - the boner for Arctic Monkeys is still strong

Arctic Monkeys lead the nominations for the NME Awards 2014 with Austin, Texas, with a total of eight nominations split between the band and singer Alex Turner, including Best Album, Best Live Band and Best British Band.

Along with Arctic Monkeys, Haim, Palma Violets and Queens of the Stone Age are all up for multiple awards. Queens of the Stone Age will face competition from the likes of Arcade Fire, Vampire Weekend and Haim in the category of Best International Band while Jake Bugg, David Bowie and Lily Allen will battle it out to be named Best Solo Artist. The final round of voting is now open – click here to have your say.

Speaking about their three nominations, Haim say: "We are so excited to be nominated for this year's NME awards! This will be our first time, so please be gentle."

Comedian Russell Brand splits opinion, nominated in both the Hero Of The Year and Villain Of The Year category, where he faces competition from One Direction's Harry Styles and more. Punk band Pussy Riot are nominated for Hero Of The Year following their imprisonment in Russia, while Russian president Vladimir Putin is nominated for Villain Of The Year.

NME editor Mike Williams says: "The past 12 months of music have had everything – returning legends, era-defining singles, more albums with a claim to be modern classics than any year in recent memory and tons of massive live moments to celebrate."

The NME Awards 2014 with Austin, Texas, take place on February 26 at London's O2 Academy Brixton. You can vote from the shortlist in 20 categories including Best Festival, Best Album, Best Live Band and Best International Band supported by Austin, Texas.
